The Iowa Hawkeyes return to the Sanford Pentagon to play the Utah Runnin’ Utes in a nonconference matchup on December 21. This marks the fourth trip to the Pentagon for Iowa and the debut appearance for Utah.
Utah has a 2-0 record against Iowa. In addition to the meeting in the NIT this season, the teams last played on Dec. 29, 1964, at the Los Angeles Classic. The Utes downed the Hawkeyes, 92-88.

The Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team is part of the University of Iowa athletics department. The Hawkeyes have played in 29 NCAA Tournaments, had eight National Invitation Tournament appearances, won eight Big Ten regular-season conference championships and won the Big Ten tournament three times.
The Utah Utes men's basketball team, also known as the Runnin' Utes, represents the University of Utah as an NCAA Division I program that plays in the Pac-12 Conference.
