Border Battles & Classics Highlight 2026 Sanford Pentagon High School Basketball Schedule

Dozens of high school teams will hit the hardwood in early 2026 as the Sanford Pentagon is set to host three distinct events: the Border Battle on January 10, the Throwback Classic on January 27, and the Heritage Classic on Feb. 7.
The Border Battle will feature teams from South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa with six games scheduled throughout the day:
- 11:30 a.m.: Western Christian (IA) vs. Dakota Valley (SD) boys
- 1:00 p.m.: Horace (ND) vs. Tea Area (SD) girls
- 2:30 p.m.: Sioux Center (IA) vs. Dakota Valley (SD) girls
- 4:00 p.m.: Sioux Center (IA) vs. Tea Area (SD) boys
- 5:30 p.m.: St. Michael Albertville (MN) vs. Sioux Falls Christian (SD) girls
- 7:00 p.m.: Storm Lake (IA) vs. Sioux Falls Christian (SD) boys
Tickets can be purchased on the day of the event at the Pentagon box office and will provide access to all six games: $10 for adults, $5 for students K-12, and free admission for kids 5 & under.
The Throwback Classic will feature the girls and boys teams from Mitchell High School and Huron High School, with both games featuring retro uniforms. The girls contest is scheduled to start at 6 p.m., with the boys game afterwards at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for K-12 students and provide entry to both games.
The Heritage Classic, like the Border Battle, will consist of six games and feature teams from both South Dakota and Iowa:
- 11:30 a.m.: Spirit Lake (IA) vs. Centerville (SD) girls
- 1:00 p.m.: Western Christian (IA) vs. Vermillion (SD) boys
- 2:30 p.m.: Bishop Heelan (IA) vs. Lyman (SD) girls
- 4:00 p.m.: Sergeant Bluff-Luton (IA) vs. Lennox (SD) boys
- 5:30 p.m.: Sioux City East (IA) vs. Ballard (IA) boys
- 7:00 p.m.: Sioux Valley (SD) vs. De Smet (SD) boys
Similar to the Border Battle, tickets for the Heritage Classic can be purchased on the day of the event at the Pentagon box office and will provide access to all six games: $10 for adults, $5 for students K-12, and free admission for kids 5 & under.
