SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The NCAA has selected the Sanford Pentagon as the site of the Division II women’s volleyball national championship in 2024.
The Sioux Falls Sports Authority submitted bids to the NCAA earlier this year and will host the event in collaboration with the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The bidding process began last August, and final submissions were due to the NCAA in early February.
The Pentagon is no stranger to the Division II volleyball championship. The 3,250-seat venue hosted the event in 2016 – won by Concordia St. Paul – and was set to host again in 2020. The 2020 event wound up canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Sanford Pentagon is the cornerstone of the 500-acre Sanford Sports Complex. It has volleyball programming year round through the Sanford POWER Volleyball Academy and the Sanford Pentagon Volleyball Club. It has also hosted the NSIC tournament and several Division I matches.
“Hosting college national championships is a thrill every time,” said Jesse Smith, vice president of operations for Sanford Sports. “Volleyball is one of our core activities, and we’re excited about creating a special experience for the student-athletes and the fans.”
