SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The SDGA-Sanford Golf Series, which provides quality and affordable competitive opportunities for junior golfers from South Dakota and the region who want to play college golf, has announced its schedule for 2019.
The series will consist of five regular season one-day events, culminating with the top point leaders earning a spot in the 36-player Series Championship on July 30 at Sutton Bay. The top point leaders will also receive an invitation to the Sanford Golf Championship, a two-day event on August 5-6 in Sioux Falls.
“Our goal is to provide junior golfers with a high quality field where they can put their game up against the region’s best,” said Todd Kolb, director of the Sanford POWER Golf Academy. “Teaming up with the SDGA allows the events in this series to played at many of the best courses in South Dakota and gives the golfers a first-class and memorable experience.”
Players must apply for membership into the SDGA-Sanford Golf Series. Applicants will be evaluated based on past competitive performance. Email SDGASanfordSeries@sdga.org with a cover letter and competitive resume. Regular season fields will be limited to 78 golfers.
Membership is $99 and includes membership in the SDGA Junior Tour (a $49 value). Members are eligible to compete in the SDGA - Sanford Golf Series events and the 23 SDGA Junior Tour events. Entry fees are $40 for SDGA - Sanford Golf Series events and $10 for SDGA Junior Tour events.
Each winner of the 16-18 age division of a regular SDGA Junior Tour event becomes eligible to participate in one event in the SDGA-Sanford Golf Series, with the potential to earn permanent status based on their performance.
“We want to make high-caliber events like this and the SDGA Junior Tour accessible and affordable for junior golfers,” said Tom Jansa, executive director of the SDGA. “We are excited to partner with Sanford Golf to provide a summer of outstanding golf across the state.”
The Sanford International is the presenting sponsor of the SDGA-Sanford Golf Series. The PGA TOUR Champions event will provide a complimentary Sanford Power Golf Academy Youth Pass to Series members.
Other benefits of the becoming a member on the Series includes a participant gift, SDGA membership, GHIN handicap, and Youth on Course membership, which allows juniors to play for a $5 green fee at courses across the state and nationwide. Events include free range balls, awards, and a participant gift.
